Food for Thought Nourishing Bodies, Healing Minds was supported by The National Lottery Community Fund to establish and pilot the project during its early development phase.
The funding enabled us to purchase essential kitchen equipment, ingredients and delivery resources, as well as cover core coordination and operational costs. This support allowed us to test our model of chef-led recovery and community cooking in a safe, structured and inclusive way.
As a new project at the time of funding, the award provided the stability needed to move from idea to delivery bringing together chefs in recovery and local residents through shared cooking experiences, skill development and accessible meals.
The funding helped us build foundations, refine our approach and demonstrate that food-led wellbeing work can support both mental health recovery and community connection.

Food for Thought Nourishing Bodies, Healing Minds has received funding from Tesco Stronger Starts to deliver our Little Chefs programme at Dorothy Parkes Centre in Smethwick.
This funding enables us to provide structured, chef-led cooking sessions for children and families in a safe and welcoming community setting.
Through hands-on preparation, shared meals and practical food education, participants build confidence, develop life skills and strengthen positive relationships around food.
The support from Tesco Stronger Starts helps cover essential delivery costs including ingredients, equipment, and session facilitation, ensuring the programme remains accessible to families who may otherwise face financial or practical barriers to participation.
By hosting Little Chefs at Dorothy Parkes Centre, we are able to reach local families in a trusted space and continue building community connection through consistent, food-led engagement.
